We have extras

We have extras this week and we hope to have extras throughout the summer. If you are interested in our CSA vegetables this is a great way to try them out. If you would like to be placed on our waiting list for extras just let us know. We will notify you that extras are available and you can pick them up. We have set them up in the same fashion we do the weekly shares this way you get a good feel of what it would be like to have a share, perhaps for next year. Each extra basket is $20.00 due at pick up.

                              Week 4

Week 4 of CSA is now here. We have a wide variety of vegetables, including lettuces, peas, spinach, radishes, beans, and more.

Week three of 2012 Community supported agriculture. We are very happy with the varitey we are able to provide our share holders this year.

Petula's calf

Petula's calf is doing very well. Petula goes out each day at noon, then we bring her back in  to be milked around five. The calf wears a halter every day. So far she doesn't have show any sign of horns.

Reklaw farm update.

All of this warm weather had us outside itching with anticipation for the upcoming season. We have purchased some of our seed and the green house is getting an early spring cleaning. The cows and pigs were also enjoying the mild weather and kicking up their heels a lot today.
Will is going to start milking Petula this week, he has been putting her in a stanchion everyday and she is settling into the routine nicely. We tagged some animals and collected tail hairs for genetic testing. We decided to start genetic testing to assure we have the best quality beef. We are looking for good marbling, tenderness, feed efficiency and high yeild grades.
The pigs will have to be separated soon as they are due the end of the month.
We need to build more chicken coops so all of our birds have plenty of room in their outdoor mobile homes.
Registrations for CSA shares have started to filter in as well.

Petula's new calf

We put Petula in the barn last week in preparation for her calf. She settled down nicely and we were able to scratch her and be in the stall with out stressing her out. On Wednesday February 8th around noon, I went to the barn to meet the farrier, who was there to trim the horses hooves. Petula was making quiet cooing sounds when I got to the barn door. Right away I knew something was up. When I got into the barn, she had her calf standing beside her, it was still wet. She is a great mom covering her calf with hay and lying in front of it to keep it warm. Mom and babe are doing great.

Animal update

Our animals are thriving this winter. Petula is due to calf in February.

Our guard dog Zeus has grown a lot.

This is one of our bull calves that we are really impressed with.

We are expecting big things from our Bull. He is developing nicely.

New Year

We had a great year in 2011 and we are looking forward to an even better year in 2012. Now that we have had some time to rest and relax we are ready to start our plan for 2012. We will keep you updated on our progress. Cheers to the new year.
